NYC is dedicated to ensuring that all students graduate from high school with a strong plan, real skills and a head start towards a life aligned to their passion and purpose, with a pathway to economic security. Our vision is for all students to be prepared with a rigorous academic foundation, real-world work experience, important professional skills, a strong college and career plan, and early college credits or industry credentials.

Career-Connected Learning
Career- Connected Learning combines classroom learning with meaningful on-the-job work experience that leads to door-opening postsecondary degrees and credentials, and a head start to good jobs and careers. There are a number of programs bringing Career- Connected Learning to life in NYC Public Schools, including Career and Technical Education (CTE), as well as new pilot programs including Career Readiness and Modern Youth Apprenticeship (CRMYA) and FutureReadyNYC (FRNYC), launched in School Year 2022-2023.
College and Career Advising
NYC Public Schools College and Career Advising programs work to ensure that high school students get the support and tools they need for a strong plan for their path after high school aligned with their passion and purpose. The robust resources available to high school students include live 1-on-1 college and career advising, text reminders with deadlines, information, and opportunities, and ways to learn more about financial aid opportunities for every pathway a student might choose after high school.
Computer Science Education
Computer Science for All (CS4All) helps schools expand computer science (CS) exposure, offer access to real-world CS skills, and creates an inclusive community in computer science for all students. Computer Science for All ensures that all NYC public school students are introduced to and learn computer science, with an emphasis on students who identify as girls, Black, and Latinx students. Through the work of the Computer Science for All initiative, students will build real skills in computational thinking and be better prepared to use computer science during their K-12 experience and after graduation.
Financial Empowerment
Financial literacy and empowerment are real skills that are critical to ensuring that students and families have the tools they need to make the financial choices that are right for them. The NYC Kids RISE Save for College Program is a scholarship and savings program designed to make college and career training more accessible for all NYC Public Schools students—regardless of family income or immigration status.
Through the Save for College Program and in partnership with the nonprofit NYC Kids RISE, every kindergarten student enrolled in a participating NYC public school automatically receives a NYC Scholarship Account with up to a $300 allocation on their behalf, unless their parents/guardians “opt out” of the program. These financial assets are designed to ensure that students have a head start on a path to economic security.
