POSITION:
Teacher of Special Education – programming for 3-K and Pre-K students in special classes in NYCPS Pre-K Centers, to take place in an in-person learning environment.
LOCATION:
District 2 3K/Pre-K Centers @ 1 Peck Slip, New York, NY, 10038
POSITION SUMMARY:

Research shows that Pre-K reduces income inequality and increases social mobility and long-term educational gains for children. Pre-K helps develop critical vocabulary, oral language, and problem-solving skills, establishes strong partnerships with families from the beginning, and raises academic success across all income and racial groups. To that end New York City Public Schools is committed to providing Pre-K to all of NYC’s children.
ELIGIBILITY:
Current, appropriately licensed NYCPS Special Education Teacher employed in a District School or NYCPS Pre-K Center. Teachers must hold Special Education (All Grades) or (Birth-Grade 2) certification.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Applicants must be available for in-person assignment.
- Knowledge and experience working with NYCPS Pre-K Centers.
- License to teach Students with Disabilities in early childhood in New York State
- Demonstrated knowledge of preschool special education and the Committee on Preschool Special Education process
- Demonstrated successful experience working with students with academic, social and/or emotional difficulties and/or communication disorders
- Ability to work 5 days per week for up to 6 hours 50 minutes per day, between the hours of 8am and 4pm. Schedule to be determined.
- Satisfactory or Highly Effective, Effective or Developing rating over past two years
- Teachers covered by Advance, no substantiated allegations of misconduct stemming from an OSI or SCI investigation or any misconduct that has led to the filing of disciplinary charges within the past three years
- Satisfactory record of attendance and punctuality.
- Support students that need intensive academic supports.
- Execute all goals and expected outcomes of the Pre-K Center program, including implementing activities aligned with IEP goals, the Prekindergarten Foundation of Common Core and Early Learning Outcomes Framework, and the Early Childhood Framework for Quality.
- Differentiate learning based on the needs of individual students and IEPs.
- Meet with parents and CPSE administrators to discuss student progress.
- Other program-based assignments as determined by the supervisor in accordance with the UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Satisfactory performance for the past two years
- No substantiated allegations of misconduct stemming from an OSI or SCI. investigation or any misconduct that has led to the filing of disciplinary charges within the past three years (does not preclude staff with less than three years of service).
- Satisfactory record of attendance and punctuality
- Preference for classroom teachers who currently work with students at the Pre-K Center or district school during the school year, to provide continuity for students and prevent substantial regression during the summer months.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work under direct supervision of the Pre-K Principal.
- Implement IEPs, provide targeted instruction to 3-K and Pre-K students with disabilities, track and monitor progress towards goals.
- May be required to work remotely, if necessary.
Note:
All sites are staffed with a school custodian and school safety agent. All sites will also receive the services of a full-time or itinerant nurse, based on site size and medical needs of students, or as need arises. All centers are staffed
with supervisory personnel including a Pre-K Principal and in some cases, Assistant Principals. These individuals may be stationed at a single site or may be itinerant. They serve as the supervisors of pedagogical staff.

HOURS:

Monday through Friday; up to 6 hours, 20 minutes per day
8:00 AM - 2:20PM
SALARY:
As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
